March 22, World Water Day

22/03/2025

World Water Day, celebrated annually on March 22, represents a global initiative to highlight the vital importance of freshwater and promote the sustainable management of this essential resource.

This day serves not only to emphasize the importance of water in our daily lives, but also to raise awareness about the global challenges it faces in terms of sustainability and accessibility.

Each year, this day highlights a specific aspect related to water, addressing topics such as climate change, the protection of aquatic ecosystems, and the importance of equal access to clean and safe water. This annual thematic focus serves to generate greater knowledge and understanding of the multiple aspects surrounding this vital resource.

March 22 thus becomes a platform for education and awareness, encouraging people to explore and better understand water issues. This is an opportunity to share global water challenges and encourage collective action towards a more sustainable future in terms of water resources.

The Day dates back to the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in which it was proposed to declare a date dedicated to this issue. The General Assembly decided to designate March 22, 1993 as the first World Day. Each year, UN-Aigua, the entity that coordinates the Organization's work on water and sanitation, establishes a theme for the Day corresponding to a current or future challenge.

World Water Day is also a time to enjoy and appreciate water and nature with all the senses. It is an invitation to recognize and celebrate the value that water has in our lives, from its presence in our daily habits to its essential role in maintaining the health of our natural ecosystems.

Enjoy the 5 senses of water and nature!
