February 14, European Sexual Health Day
On February 14th, coinciding with Valentine's Day, European Sexual Health Day is celebrated, an initiative created to raise awareness about the importance of sexual health as an essential part of general well-being and human rights. The day seeks to promote a positive and inclusive vision of sexuality, based on respect, equality and freedom of choice.
Sexual health involves much more than the absence of disease; it includes the ability to enjoy a safe and satisfying sex life, access to quality sexual education, and the ability to make informed decisions about one's body. In this context, prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, access to contraceptive methods, and eliminating stigma around issues related to sexuality are key challenges.
During this date, institutions, health organisations and social entities carry out awareness-raising activities, such as workshops, information campaigns and medical check-ups. The European Sexual Health Day reminds us of the importance of ensuring that everyone has the necessary resources to live their sexuality in a safe, respectful and free way, promoting a healthier and more aware society.
