Vinseum Museu de les Cultures del Vi de Catalunya Vilafranca del Penedès
The new house of Catalan wine
The museum was founded in 1934 with the aim of bringing together different collections related to the Penedès. Archaeology was very important, thanks to the discoveries that had been made in the region. Historical collections were the result of private donations: works of art that are a testimony to the economic vitality of the country; ethnology, ceramics, the fruit of the curiosity of the citizens. Among these collections - it could not be otherwise - there were many objects related to the cultivation of vineyards and wine making, which has been one of the fundamental activities in the Penedès since ancient times.
The visit to the exhibition includes the audio guide service (in Catalan, Spanish, English and French) and lasts approximately 1 hour and a half.
Vinseum is a dynamic space that offers a diverse cultural programme, aimed at different audiences, where wine is explained from multiple perspectives and where gastronomy, thought, performing arts and, ultimately, culture also have a place.
The museum also has a documentation centre and a specialist shop.
Guided tours
The museum offers guided tours of the permanent exhibition for groups of at least 20 and a maximum of 25 people (plus 1 companion per group).
The languages of the service are: Catalan, Spanish, English and French.

Vinseum Documentation Centre
The Vinseum Documentation Centre (CDV) is an information resource centre open to all citizens to support learning, teaching and research in the field of vineyard and wine culture.
Its mission is to be a documentary and informative reference on vineyard and wine cultures in Catalonia. The CDV manages a bibliographic and newspaper collection specialising in vineyard and wine cultures, both from modern and ancient times. It also manages the archive, made up of the museum's funds, archives of external origin and documentary collections.
The CDV also preserves books, pamphlets, magazines and archives - including a music archive - from a local area, inherited from a local collection that began when the museum was founded.
Store
At the museum shop we avoid industrial products and seek to be sustainable in a global way. We work on corporate social responsibility, supporting local producers, artisans or nearby companies that, therefore, respect European labour legislation and human rights.
Let's make sure that the materials used are environmentally friendly, including our packaging.
We also advocate that it is necessary to pay a fair price to the producer or artisan that covers production costs and allows for a dignified life.
Tavern
The museum tavern is a space open to the public for promoting and tasting wines by the glass from all over Catalonia, with special attention to the museum's Amics d'Honor wineries, and accompanied by a tapas menu without cooking.
This space at the Vinseum is a meeting point for all Catalan wine regions, an open and attentive forum for debate, planning, promotion and enjoyment of the sector that works to dignify and give even more prestige and added value to Catalan wine.
