Day 1
Place of origin – Pamplona – Irún
Departure from our place of origin towards the Basque Country. Lunch at a restaurant on the route. Stop in Pamplona, where we will take a walk through the city center to see the main places. Free time. Continuation of the trip to reach the hotel. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 2
Biarritz - Bayonne - Hondarribia
Breakfast and departure to visit Biarritz, originally a whaling town. In the 19th century, doctors recommended sea baths in Biarritz for its therapeutic properties. It became famous in 1854, when Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III, had a palace built on the beach, where the British royal family spent long periods. Highlights include: the Museum of the Sea, with 24 aquariums with sharks and whales; the Imperial Chapel; two large casinos, Barres and Bellevue, opposite the Grand Plage. We will continue our visit to Bayonne, at the confluence of the Nive and Adur rivers, founded in 950 on the ruins of an ancient Roman castrum. Highlights include: the Cathedral of Santa Maria, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998, a monument on the Way of St. James; the Citadel and fortifications of Vauban. Return to the hotel. Lunch. In the afternoon we will leave for Hondarribia, at the foot of Mount Jaizkibel, the natural border with France. Thick, high walls surround the city, enclosing the old quarter, with a grid layout characteristic of the Middle Ages. Highlights include: the Castle of Charles V, the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Pomera, the House of Etxebeste, the Plaza de Guipúzcoa and numerous medieval streets. Return to the hotel. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 3
Little Train de la Rhune – Saint Jean de Luz – San Sebastian
Breakfast. In the morning we will go to the town of Ascain, in the Basque-French Pyrenees, to take the “ Petit train de la Rhune ” on which we will take a magnificent and spectacular journey to the summit of the same name. Next we will visit Saint Jean de Luz, a beautiful town on the French Basque coast with its busy and picturesque port. Nearby there are noble buildings such as the Maison Louis XIV which links the network of pedestrian paths in the centre with the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste. Lunch. In the afternoon we will go to San Sebastián, a beautiful city on the Cantabrian Sea, where its famous Concha beach, the port and the old quarter with the church of San Vicente stand out. Free time. Return to the hotel. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 4
Place of origin – Vitoria
Breakfast and departure towards Vitoria-Gazteiz, capital of the Basque Country and beautiful Green Capital of Europe, where we will take a walking tour. Highlights of Vitoria include the Cathedral of Santa María and the Medieval Quarter, as well as the many monuments and urban sculptures spread throughout the streets and squares of the city, such as the monument to Ken Follet and El Minotauro by Casto Solano or El Caminante by Juan José Eguizábal. We will then begin the return trip. Lunch at a restaurant on the route and continue the trip to reach our point of origin.
