This castle is one of the best examples of Romanesque military and civil architecture in Spain, and is designated as an Asset of Cultural Interest and a National Monument. Loarre Castle has been the scene of several filmings, including the film "The Kingdom of Heaven" (2005) directed by Ridley Scott and starring Orlando Bloom, in which the inhabitants of Loarre participated as extras. Later, we will move to Huesca to eat in a restaurant. In the afternoon, we will visit the city of Huesca and we will have free time. Transfer to the hotel in the province of Huesca for dinner and accommodation.
Day 2
The Artouste Train
After breakfast, we will leave for Artouste, on the border, where we will take the cable car to the top of the mountain. From there, we will begin a trip on the Artouste Train, known for its wonderful route. Located at 2,000 meters above sea level, the train passes over Lake Fabrèges and offers stunning views of the Midi peak of Ossau and the French Pyrenean mountain range. This train is one of the highest tourist railways in Europe, with a length of ten kilometers. At the end of the tour, we will descend to appreciate nature and, whoever wishes, can take a walk to the lake accompanied by our guide. Afterwards, we will return to Artouste with the train and cable car. Lunch in a restaurant and return to the hotel. Free time, dinner and accommodation.
Day 3
San Juan de la Peña – Place of origin
After breakfast, we will leave to visit the Protected Landscape of San Juan de la Peña and Monte Oroel in the Aragonese Pyrenees. Here we find the Old Monastery of San Juan de la Peña, a medieval jewel covered by a large rock. The complex includes buildings from the 10th century, testifying to various historical periods. We will also visit the Interpretation Center of the Kingdom of Aragon, located inside the baroque church of the New Monastery. This modern interactive space offers a spectacular audiovisual about the origin of the Kingdom and the Crown of Aragon, with light effects, sound, models and a mobile seating platform.
