2 days in Terra Vinea in France: a unique adventure with Viajes Apolo!

In the village of Portel-des-Corbières, high above a majestic landscape, we will board the mini train that will take us to the doors of the depths of the Earth to experience the sensations of an archaeologist who discovers behind a stone wall, an exceptional place, suspended in time. Vinea Land!

Here, miners shaped the gypsum stone. 80 metres underground, we will walk through some 800 metres of underground galleries, discovering different paintings and decorations from the history of the Narbonne vineyard and wine. Be amazed by a sound and lighting animation that culminates in an immense earthly vault like a cathedral.

Admire the landscape made up of numerous wine-aging barrels that will guide you through stages, in an ancient Roman villa, a medieval banquet, an underground lake and a museum of vineyard work. Virtual animations and a guided tour will awaken your senses after this surprising journey through time, as well as delighting you with a tasting of various carefully selected local wines.

DAY 1 - PLACE OF ORIGIN - VINE SOIL - PERPIGNAN

Departure in the morning towards France. Stop en route for breakfast (not included) and continue the trip to enter the Languedoc region where we will make an interesting visit to the largest underground winery in the south of France: Terra Vinea.

From ancient times to the present day, the vineyard has shaped the wealth, history and landscape of this civilisation. Beneath the vaults of this naturally heated plaster cathedral, between the shores of the Mediterranean and the Cathar Country, the winegrowers have brought passion and expertise to satisfy their thirst for emotion, culture and quality wines. They will share their passion with us on an initiation journey where the underground magic remains intact. We will begin our visit aboard a little train that will take us to the entrance of the Celler, where we will attend a light and sound show.

Then, along a 800-metre route and up to 80 metres deep, we will enjoy a journey through the history of wine. Following in the footsteps of the Romans, thanks to a reconstruction of a Gallo-Roman villa, and passing through the medieval period with the presentation of a tavern.

The magnificent underground galleries of Terra Vinea will allow us to discover a multitude of museums that recreate the history of the vineyard and the winegrowers, old tools, a blacksmith's workshop, a cooper's workshop, a mine gallery... recreated scenes that will make you relive the gestures of our ancestors. At the end of the visit we will have a wine tasting. Lunch in the restaurant of the wine cellars. In the afternoon we will take a walk through the city of Perpignan. Transfer to the hotel located in Empuriabrava. Dinner and accommodation.

DAY 2 - EMPURIABRAVA - SAN PEDRO DE RUEDAS - PLACE OF ORIGIN.

Breakfast and departure to visit San Pedro de Rodas, where we will visit its historic Monastery, whose true origin is unknown, although the most certain legend says that it was founded by monks who landed in the area with the remains of Saint Peter, which they had to guard so as not to be desecrated by the barbarian hordes. The Monastery is notable for the Cenobio, of which we already have news in 878, which was a humble monastic cell and during the 10th century it was already an independent abbey.

The most important element of the monument is the church, unique in its type within Catalan Romanesque architecture. The central nave of the basilica is of exceptional decorative richness and grandeur and the capitals are of Corinthian tradition and are considered among the best sculptural pieces of the 11th century. Also noteworthy are the defence tower (10th century, reformed in the 14th century) and the bell tower (late 11th century), as well as the two superimposed cloisters and the remains of pictorial mural decoration.

We will also be able to enjoy exceptional views over the bay of Llansá and Port de la Selva. After the visit we will return to the hotel for lunch and at the agreed time we will begin the return trip to our place of origin.
