2 days Ceret Lanterns Festival and Port Barcarés Christmas Market

Travel back to the ancient legend of the splendors of China and the Port Barcares Christmas market!

DAY 1 - PLACE OF ORIGIN - GIRONA - "FESTIVAL SPLENDOUR OF THE LANTERNS OF CERET" (France).  

Departure in the morning towards Girona. Stop en route for breakfast.

Arrival in Girona, a city with more than 2000 years of history and of Roman origin, also known for being the setting for the Game of Thrones series. Girona enchants with its cobbled streets in the old town. We will have free time to discover the main gems of the city, such as the best preserved Jewish quarter in Europe, the magnificent Cathedral, the Arab Baths, the Wall, the cloister of the Monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants, the Climb of Sant Domènec, among others.

Transfer to the hotel and lunch.

In the afternoon, we will head into the south of France to the town of Ceret, where this year the great Lantern Festival ( entrance included ) is being held. This spectacular event takes place in the gardens of the Château d'Aubiry, which are transformed into a large space of lights and offer an extraordinary spectacle created by 80 Chinese craftsmen from the province of Sichuan. This ancestral talent gives life to monumental light sculptures: 2,600 giant lanterns depicting mythological animals, buildings, scenes from Chinese life and mythical legends.

The festival includes travelling performances of traditional Chinese culture, a spectacular mapping projected onto the castle façade and fireworks. We will have free time to enjoy the tour. Dinner is not included and can be enjoyed freely within the grounds.

Return to the hotel and accommodation.

DAY 2 - EMPURIABRAVA - CATALAN VENICE - PORT BARCARÈS CHRISTMAS MARKET (France).

Breakfast. In the morning we will take a pleasant boat ride through the canals of Empuriabrava, known as “ The Catalan Venice ”. This residential marina is the largest in Europe and the second largest in the world, after Miami. During the trip, we will admire the spectacular residences of this unique marina.

Lunch.

In the afternoon, we will travel to Port Barcarès (France), near Perpignan, where the largest Christmas market in the south of France is held. Since 1999, the magic of Christmas has transformed more than 20,000 square metres into a huge Christmas village with wooden stalls, parades, iconic attractions such as the giant Ferris wheel or the skating rink, and thousands of Christmas lights and trees.

The market is presided over by the historic Lydia ocean liner, transformed for the occasion into a giant Christmas tree. This iconic ship can be visited, offering a unique experience to relive its history as a ferry connecting Australia, Marseille or Beirut.

We will have free time to explore the market ( entrance included; attractions not included ) and experience the Christmas spirit. At the agreed time, return to the place of origin.
