"La Santa Espina" by Àngel Guimerà at the Manresa Conservatory Theater
Theater / September 14 and 15 / Manresa Conservatory Theater.
Who does not know or has never heard the sardana of ' La Santa Espina '? But what many people do not know is that this sardana is part of the play that Àngel Guimerà premiered in 1907 with great success and that was later banned during the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera. Now, on the occasion of the celebration of the Guimerà Year, Manresa recovers, with a participatory staging with artists and entities from Manresa, one of the most forgotten and also most imaginative works of the Catalan playwright.
The bover Gueridó is in love with Maria, the heiress of the farmhouse where he works. When her parents find out, they fire him. Before leaving, Gueridó secretly enters the house and takes, as a souvenir, a bouquet of flowers tied with a reliquary that keeps a piece of the Holy Thorn. This is just the beginning of a comic and fantastic fable, full of witches, spells, princes and remote islands that a new Guimerà will discover for us.
A PARTICIPATORY STAGE WITH ENTITIES FROM THE REGION AND MORE THAN 60 ARTISTS ABOVE THE STAGE.
