Exhibition: “Trencant vaixells, trencant vines”, Barcelona Maritime Museum

How long do large ships operate? What happens to these steel giants when they reach the end of their useful life?

The exhibition “Trencant vaixells, trencant vides” aims to raise awareness of what is considered one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, the so-called “beaching” or ship breaking, which takes place directly on the beaches.

Scrapping a ship in Europe is expensive due to strict regulations, so many shipowners are looking for cheaper alternative regions. In Southeast Asia there are several places where this activity is carried out at a lower cost and with legal requirements.

In this exhibition we will learn about the life of the people who work in these facilities and the harsh working conditions they face day after day. A business for some, and a way of life and an extremely precarious job for many people.

We are waiting for you!
