Josa País de Càtars August 4, 2024 in Josa de Cadí

Every year, the picturesque town of Josa de Cadí is transformed into a vibrant scene of medieval traditions, thanks to the Cathar Festival. This event, founded in 1996, is a tribute to the Cathars, also known as "good men", and offers a rich program of activities that attracts visitors of all ages.

The festival begins at 10:00 a.m. with the opening of the Cathar and traditional artisans' market and bookstore, which lasts all day. Visitors can explore a wide variety of craft products and books related to Cathar culture. During the morning, you can participate in archery, an activity directed by Boscaris, located in the Plaza del Rector, at a cost of only €3 per person.

The street entertainment by El Toll del Ferro begins at 10:45 and is repeated several times throughout the day, adding a touch of fun and entertainment to the event. At 11:00 a.m., Josa's Medieval Discovery Game begins, an interactive activity for all audiences.

Creative workshops and Guided Tours

Craft lovers can enjoy the Candle Container Workshop at 11:00 a.m., led by Laura Dionisio, where participants can create their own container for only €4. At noon, historian Carles Gascón leads a guided tour of Josa, including stops at emblematic places such as the Cal Colomer balma and the church of Santa María and San Bernabé.

The little ones and families will enjoy the story-telling at 1:00 p.m., with Antònia and Gemma, who will present "Different stories for great diversity" at the Old School.

Popular Food and Book Presentations

The festival offers a popular meal at 2:00 p.m. at Bar L'Era Vella. The menu, which costs €16, can be reserved in advance at the Alt Urgell Regional Council. After eating, participants can enjoy more activities such as the archery tournament and a pineapple syrup-making workshop.

In the afternoon, book presentations are a strong point of the festival. At 4:00 p.m., "Aires de Trementina" by Lluís Llort is presented, followed by "The Exodus of the Cathars" by Mariana Vernieri at 5:00 p.m. These events take place at the L'Era Vella Civic Center and offer a unique opportunity to meet the authors and delve deeper into historical and cultural topics.

Traditional Music and Dances

The day concludes with a festive atmosphere thanks to traditional music from the Pyrenees, performed by La Sonsoni. Starting at 6:30 p.m., Josa Square is filled with ancient melodies and medieval dances, inviting everyone to participate in the dance workshop.
