The National Museum of Art of Catalonia is a public museum with an exceptional art collection, ranging from the 10th to the 20th century, and which preserves and exhibits Catalan artistic expression, in its entirety, contextualized with works by some of the main Spanish artists. and international. The MNAC is a museum for the whole world that is a meeting and dialogue point in which to question the world.

The best art collection in Catalonia

The MNAC preserves the best collection of Romanesque art in the world, for the set of wall paintings from the Romanesque churches of the Pyrenees. Together with the Romanesque, the collection of Gothic art makes the National Museum a world reference in medieval art.

In the Renaissance and Baroque rooms you can see great names in universal painting such as El Greco, Rubens, Goya or Velázquez, present in the Museum thanks, in large part, to legacies and donations from Catalan civil society.

The modern art collection offers a story about the birth of modernity and the role played by art and artists. Works by Mariano Fortuny, Ramon Casas, Isidro Nonell, Joaquín Torres García, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí, among others, stand out. The National Museum houses the largest set of pieces exhibited in a museum by Antoni Gaudí, the greatest exponent of modernism, and his collaborator, Josep Maria Jujol.

The rooms dedicated to the Spanish Civil War exhibit an outstanding collection of art produced during this period. The modern art tour ends with the postwar period and the second avant-garde. The collection thus extends until the early eighties of the twentieth century.

Weekend? at the MNAC.

Every weekend at the MNAC you can carry out new activities for all audiences, from author visits, with a contemporary look at the collection, to creation workshops, both for families and adults. In addition, the spaces of the Museum, such as the Oval Room, the cafeteria and restaurant or the Terrazas-Mirador are an ideal place to disconnect, meet friends and find inspiration. There is always something to do at the Museum!
