Església de Sant Martí de la Cortinada la Cortinada
This 12th-century Romanesque church is one of the finest examples of Andorran religious art, a testament to centuries of devotion and architectural transformations. While maintaining its medieval essence, it has been enriched with extensions and modern additions, reflecting the evolution of worship and the needs of the community over time.
One of its most notable elements is the Romanesque pictorial cycle, discovered in 1968, which combines religious and secular scenes with unique expressiveness. This is the largest Romanesque collection preserved in situ in an Andorran church, making this temple a reference point for the study and appreciation of the country's pictorial heritage.
In addition, the side chapels and the Baroque apse house Baroque altarpieces dedicated to Saint Anthony the Abbot, the Virgin Mary and Saint Martin, which provide a great ornamental richness and a profusion of decoration characteristic of this style.
The carved wooden furniture, wrought iron railings, and unique details such as the confessional and carillon exemplify the craftsmanship that decorated churches in the modern era, demonstrating the meticulous work of master carpenters and blacksmiths.
This heritage site offers a unique experience, transporting visitors through the centuries of history, art, and tradition that have shaped Andorra's cultural identity.
