Free visit to the Arco de Berà
The Arco de Berà has been, is and will always be a symbol of Tarraco!
The Arco de Berà was built on the Via Augusta at the end of the 1st century BC, but its current appearance is not exactly the same as that seen by the Romans. Over the centuries, the monument has undergone numerous modifications. In addition to the deterioration caused by time, some unfortunate restorations and even an attack have endangered its integrity.
The current appearance of the arch, which can be seen from the N-340 road, is the result of the last restoration work carried out in 1998, the result of a meticulous research process led by the archaeologist Xavier Dupré. The arch is incomplete, since it is missing an upper section where there was probably a group of sculptures representing Augustus and other members of his family.
