Tarragona roman city
The ancient Tarraco was the main gateway of the classical world to Catalonia. From that past an invaluable historical legacy is conserved. As in other great Roman capitals, in Tarraco there were temples, basilicas, markets, theater, circus, amphitheater and one of the largest squares in the Empire, dedicated to the administration of the province. In the surrounding area great aqueducts, luxurious villas and triumphal arches were built.
For those who want to experience history first hand, the city organizes the Tarraco Viva Festival every year, where historical re-enactments, debates, workshops, monologues, visits and other activities serve to bring us closer to learning about our history.
